Apocalypse 50

In my build up to the Lakeland 100 I'm trying to race once a month to get my eye in so to speak. On looking around for races I fancied the old county tops but couldn't find a partner from either Raidlight or Ambleside due to other commitments so I found this little number. I'd obviously heard of Beyond marathon and knew it would be very well organised. They also do a 100 race but I had no intentions of going that far as I wished to jump straight back into training. The long tour of Bradwell

Date: Saturday 9 August Distance: 34 miles Ascent: 1920m This is a good candidate for the toughest event in the Peak District, so don’t underestimate it. It’s a great round taking in the Hope Valley, Edale, Kinder Scout and Stanage Edge, so the views are good, and there is a lot of climbing. If you’re going to recce anything, you should make sure you know the bit from Burbage Bridge down to the Derwent valley: every year the tape markers have gone by the time the runners ge...

The Bob Graham Round

So then. It's time. All the months...well, years of planning, training and preparation is over. The day is here. Time to shut out all distractions and focus on myself and my team that's around me. It's very humbling to know that around 30 people are descending on Keswick and surrounding areas just for one man to realise his dream. It was also remarkable the amount of support I had on social networking sites from friends, family, fellow runners and adventurers. Many not a clue what I was doing, ...

Hardmoors 55

I travelled up to Helmsley very early so I could bag myself a decent quiet parking spot for the Campervan at the football club. I visited the town of Thirsk first for essential supplies. I was surprised how many people had the same idea and had parked up various sleeping arrangements early also. There were tents, trailer tents and a teardrop trailer caravan of which I covet dearly. I chilled and chatted with other competitors about the race and was asked what time I was aiming for. I said "sub...
